We’re at it again! Construction hasn’t stopped all season for us here at Seaside Seawalls, as we work year-round. We have recently completed a job for a residential customer on the beautiful Strawberry Lake in the village of Pinckney, Michigan. Pinckney, which is part of the greater Livingston County, is home to approximately 2,141 residents and has a total area of about 1.5 square miles – 3.25% of that being water. We were contacted by this customer to replace an old, failing seawall with a brand new galvanized steel seawall. After obtaining a DEQ Permit and gathering the necessary equipment (skid steer and excavator) and materials (steel pilings, riprap, and sand for the backfill), we began construction! When we were installing the brand new seawall, we noticed some soft clay in the ground which we were actually able to use to our advantage to help give the wall some extra support. We also inserted steel pilings into the ground to give the new seawall the necessary support to ensure its durability through the ever-changing temperatures and weather conditions of Michigan! After we finished building the seawall, we backfilled it with sand and placed riprap at 100% of the wall’s water ward toe. The entire project only took our team about a day and a half to complete. The brand new steel seawall was installed directly in front of the pre-existing seawall, and ended up being 40 feet long and about 3 feet high. One great thing about this particular seawall was that it tied very nicely into both neighbors’ seawalls, giving the properties a uniform appearance. Strawberry Lake is just one of the many beautiful lakes in Pinckney, Michigan. It is a popular destination in both the summer and the winter for water sports and other related activities. Residents located on Strawberry Lake frequently use it for boating, fishing, swimming, and cruising through the many lakes that are connected by river through Strawberry Lake. With sandy bottoms and a large beach area, Strawberry Lake is a great summer destination for kids who love to play in the sand and for adults who enjoy sunbathing and relaxing in the hot summer sun. As the temperatures are cooling and we are moving from the summer season the fall, residents of Strawberry Lake can take in the natural beauty of the lake and its surroundings during the day, and sit around the campfire at night as the temperature drops. Fall is the perfect season to enjoy the tranquility and calmness of this lake with the kids back at school, as it is frequently utilized as a popular fishing spot during the fall months. Livingston County, where the village of Pinckney is located, has a population of approximately 180,967 people and a total area of 585.43 square miles, of which 568.40 square miles is land and 17.03 square miles is water. As we move from summer to fall and the temperature is lowering, having a proper structure (like a seawall) in place for your residential or commercial waterfront property is becoming increasingly important if you want to help prevent common occurrences like shoreline erosion. Having the necessary structures in place as we transition from the fall to the winter will not only increase the value of your waterfront property, but will also give your home an aesthetically-appealing and functional exterior.
