Orchard Lake
As the seawall season for 2011 came to an end, we completed a beautiful 115 foot limestone Redi-rock retaining wall in Orchard Lake , Michigan. Built on the shores of Orchard Lake, this seawall replaced a failing wooden seawall. Our marine contractors incorporated concrete steps into the wall so that the homeowner could fit his seasonal dock right up to the steps and of course makes access to the lake easier. This particular homeowner’s shoreline had a slight curve in it and our marine contractors were able to follow the curve beautifully as shown in the pictures below. Because this seawall was above the ordinary high water mark, only a permit through the City of Orchard Lake was necessary.
There are many advantages to having Redi-rock as either a seawall or a retaining wall. Not only do they look beautiful if done correctly, Redi-rock also has an outstanding life span. An experienced marine contractor will know the correct way to install a Redi-rock wall, which entails a sound base to start the first row of block on. The blocks are set on a compacted, crushed concrete base which assures they are properly aligned and at a consistent level height. Backing the Redi-rock is a filter fabric lining which allows proper drainage through the retaining wall or seawall. These Redi-rock walls are a beautiful way to prevent shoreline erosion and add to value of your lakefront area.
With snow on the ground, it’s difficult to think of the upcoming spring. But before we know it, the snow will melt and everyone will be looking forward to getting back into the water. Now is a great time to call and set up a consultation with our marine contractors for a seawall quote for the upcoming spring/summer season. Many times we have to file permits for seawalls and they can take several months to process. This is an ideal time to get all of the paperwork out of the way so that as soon as it warms up, we can get started on your seawall or shoreline project. We look forward to another successful and busy seawall season for 2012!
