Seawall Construction From Our Barge

Over the many years of being in business, we have encountered many seawalls and dock projects that would have gone much smoother for us if we could have conducted the construction with our excavator from the water.  Sometimes access for machinery by land to a customers shoreline is limited, or flat out isn’t going to happen.  We knew we had to eventually figure out some way to access these shorelines in need of seawall repair, new seawall construction, or a new permanent dock.  So what did we come up with?

Kevin, our on-site seawall construction leader put his thinking cap on and created blue prints for a  custom floating vessel.  We purchased  a truck load of angle iron and steel plate, and started from scratch.  With two men welding and a man cutting, we rocked the boat!  Before we knew it we had spent a bunch of money, but most importantly, we were staring at our new barge.  The 20′ x 16′ three piece floating vessel was now complete!   The same day we loaded  it onto our 30′ trailer and transported it over to School Lake in Brighton MI.  The big question that day was of course, is this darn thing going to float or go straight to the bottom!?  To our amazement, not even a pin hole leak!  Let me just tell ya, our crew over here at Seaside consists of a group of men who are hard workers, great at what we do, and take so much pride in their work.  The same goes for the seawall repair, steel seawalls, vinyl seawalls, boulder seawalls, and permanent docks they install throughout each and every year.

The possibilities are endless for Seaside customers.  What you want, is what you will get.  Our barge gives us access to seawall repair or constructing  the many different types of seawalls we offer, in these limited access areas.  If you have an existing seawall, we always first evaluate if seawall repair is a realistic or best cost-effective option.  If the condition of the existing wall is beyond repair or the cost of the repair is close to the actual cost of a new seawall, then we will propose a new wall.  If the height of the new needed seawall is tall or the area is subject to heavy ice pressure, we will propose a steel seawall or galvanized seawall.  These two types of piling walls are as durable as you get and come with a extensive installation warranty.  If the area of new seawall installation is subject to moderate to low ice pressure or is in an area of soft-mucky soil conditions,  another attractive piling- type wall we will propose to you is the vinyl seawall.  Wood piling or boulder seawalls are a few more walls we offer for installation as well.  Although boulder seawalls may be the most costly of all the walls when access is limited for machinery,  I’m sure you can figure out why that would be.  Last but not least, we can’t forget about permanent docks !  Why spend all the money on a seasonal- sectional dock, rolla dock, or floating dock, and the money to have it installed and removed every year.  If I had an option to choose, I personally would spend the money one time on a permanent dock.  Our 4-6” steel pipe posts and structural angle iron framing is designed to with-stand ice pressure.  You have the option of treated lumber or composite board decking to finish off your new one-time permanent dock.  Other than all the above, we are looking forward to having another great 100% customer satisfaction year for 2011!  Thank you for taking the time to read the  “seawall/dock 101”  blog section of our very well designed website by Remnant Media Network.
